Garage Mess to Office Nook

This is not one of my most glamorous projects but more of a quick easy necessary project for the function of our home. My husband needed an area to work from home just a couple days a week. Our current desk/office situation wouldn't work for him because it's open to our living room and kitchen and he needs to be able to shut the door when on zoom or phone calls. And with all three kids being home during the summer soon that wasn't an option.

We decided to turn a corner of our garage into an office nook. He would have been fine just throwing a desk and computer up and calling it a day, but I wanted to at least give him a homey, office feel so he didn't "feel" like he was in the corner of the garage! ANd I think this jump started my "let's remodel the whole garage phase". Win, win. Ha! So Here we go!

Ready Set Declutter!

The hardest part for me to wrap my head around was where do I put all this junk! Here is where we started!

I had been wanting to get a shed for the longest time so this seemed like the perfect reason. I was able to get rid of maybe a third of the misc stuff on the shelves and then I organized the rest and moved everything the the shed we set up on the side of our yard. I love how its all put away now and it has a place!

I purchased the shed from Wayfair and since we live in Southern California and do not experience any extreme weather I got the metal shed which was the least expensive but not the best for heavy storms ect.

I put it together myself and it took me (one person) about 4 hours to assemble the entire thing. I also put a 4 tiered wire shelving unit inside for all of my smaller bins.

Honestly, I want to get a second to store some more stuff in!

Warm it up...

The first thing I knew I wanted to do to make this corner feel less like a garage and more like a little office was paint. It's true that paint can do wonders. I gave my husband a few choices, all deep greens and he ended up choosing Rainforest by Behr at Home Depot.

Custom DIY Cabinet Doors

My biggest pet peeve of this area (and the rest of my garage) is the open shelving. My goal is to close in all of our shelves in our garage but this was a good start. Since these shelves are huge I decided to make the doors instead of custom order them to save some money. Each door is 2x3 feet and it ended up costing all in $60 for two doors. They turned out perfect and I wanted them to blend in rather that stand out so I painted them the same color as the wall. I also hung a pendant for function and to for warmth to the space.

Fill it in!

Now that I have the space cleared out, painted and lit I am ready to start putting everything back together. I purchased a simple L shaped desk from Amazon. Just enough for function and a minimalist look. Having this extra desk works out perfect because now I have space for our printer and a few other things which I stuck in baskets (alwasy my go too do declutter yet have things handy).
