Light it UP - Outdoor Lighting Guide

Spring will be here before we know it and for me (and hopefully you) that means spending more time outdoors! Your yard, both front and back, is an extension of your home. I want to touch on ways you can create and inviting outdoor space where you can relax and enjoy your time with friends and family.

Enrich Your Entry

Why not make an inviting first impression not only for guests but for you when you arrive home each day. Taking pride in you home starts with the outside and arriving home each day to a warm inviting space helps create peace, calm, and a feeling of safety. Outdoor lighting is a key piece to creating this feeling.

Let's start with landscape and pathway lighting. Every home has a unique aesthetic charm and you can highlight this charm with well placed lighting. Create a warm and inviting touch by adding step lighting. My favorite are sleek and modern lights that blend into the hardscape so you are not so much noticing the fixture but the light and feel that it gives off. If you do not have steps or an entry wall, pathway lights are perfect for adding a soft wash of light as you walk up to your home.

Now that the pathway to your home is lit and beautiful, the obvious next step to enriching your entry is creating a front doorway that is just as inviting. Your front entry is a statement of welcome and highlighting it with subtle lighting design can make it a magnificent showpiece.

Depending on your entry way you can either add wall sconces or pendant lighting. If your space is small and does not have a high ceiling I would suggest wall sconces on either side of the door. This will create balance to your entry way and showcase the beauty of your home.

A hanging pendant light or chandelier is the perfect way to highlight architectural features of your home and create a focal point upon entry. High ceilings or gables are the prefect places for these.
